Mavericks governor Mark Cuban has made clear his desire to build a new arena and include the Stars, who prefer American Airlines Center for its ‘great bones'...

that would have allowed voters to consider legalizing resort casinos, it seemingly delayed Cuban’s plans by at least two years but did little if anything to extinguish them.last week. “I think it’s time for Dallas and the state of Texas to become a true tourism destination. It would be a huge benefit for jobs and the economy.”

Cuban is especially geeked about the 44-feet-long, 31-feet-wide, 26-feet-high, four-sided Samsung center hung display, which also has nested 10-foot video screens inside the scoreboard for much improved viewing for fans and players courtside and rinkside. “When they put the structure together we were like, ‘Wow, we nailed it,’"Brown said. “We really found the right size and scale for the American Airlines Center space. We didn’t want it to be too big, too small, be a distraction. We wanted it to be right, and we think we really got it.”Between Stars and Mavericks games, concerts and other live performances, AAC hosts about 170 events each year. The venue perennially ranks among the top five revenue-producing arenas in the United States.

“You don’t see any exposed cinderblock,” Brown said. “Go to any other building and you’ll see that. ... Just look at the millwork around the concourses. ... We built a very nice sports arena that has stood the test of time.”It’s primarily AAC’s “great bones” and location that make the Stars want to stay — and to spend additional money, in the hundreds of millions, that they believe is needed to remain longer-term.

Asked what enhancements the Stars would like to see, Alberts cited a need for more concession offerings, including those for health-conscious fans; and significant upgrades in premium hospitality spaces at the event, suite and upper-deck areas.
