A man was sentenced Wednesday to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter for a deadly shooting outside a bar in Rochester.

FILE - The rear parking lot of the Black Bear Pub on West Ridge Road in Rochester is pictured Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021. Jose Acevedo, now 34, shot Sean Semprie, 29, multiple times at point-blank range Nov.

13, 2021 in the back parking lot of the Black Bear Pub on West Ridge Road, according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office Investigators determined Acevedo and Semprie were involved in an argument inside the bar earlier in the night. An indictment was unsealed March 11, 2024 charging Acevedo with murder for Semprie's death, prosecutors said. Acevedo was in state custody on unrelated gun charges when the indictment was unsealed.Sean Semprie was only 29 years old when he was gunned down at point-blank range by someone he knew,” District Attorney Brian Green said in a statement. “His family lost a son in an act of intentional, senseless violence. Jose Acevedo made the decision to bring a gun into a personal conflict and pull the trigger, ending Sean’s life and permanently devastating his family. This sentence reflects the seriousness of that crime and ensures that the person responsible will spend decades in prison.
