27, 2026 regarding a decrease in gun violence in the city. Rochester, N.Y. — Mayor Malik Evans addressed the city Tuesday sharing an update on public safety initiatives and highlighting statistics from 2025. Evans said a recent report shows almost all gun violence metrics fell to their lowest levels since 2018.Evans said violent crime and homicides dropped for the fourth year in a row, with 36 homicides reported last year.“I’m gratified by these numbers because they give us a high degree of confidence that gun violence will continue to fall," Evans said in a statement. "But I’m not satisfied because no level of gun violence is satisfactory or ever be acceptable.” Evans said he's concerned by "troubling signs beneath the surface of the numbers," citing last month's shootout in the 19th Ward where three police officers and a civilian were wounded during a domestic violence incident.“That incident offered a reminder in the starkest of terms that gun violence still threatens innocent people,” Evans continued. “It was a stark reminder that too many people only know how to settle disputes with violence; and too many of those disputes take place among domestic partners.” Evans said the city will use every tool available to reduce and stop crime. That includes the ongoing gun violence state of emergency, which has been used to shut down places known for crime. "In 2025, we issued closure orders on 12 properties. In 2025, that was on 15 properties," explained Patrick Beath, the city's corporation counsel. "So far in 2026, we've used the closure on one property. We of course hope we will be able to use these less and less, but we're going to respond as we have to as violence happens." Evans said reducing crime takes work from countless people and organizations, but one important initiative is keeping young people busy and out of trouble.Portage, N.Y. — A report of a missing man led authorities to discover he had been killed in a snowmobile crash in Livingston County.Parolee accused of raping 15-year-old after giving her drugs An Ontario County man has been charged with first- and third-degree rape and facilitating a sexual performance of a child with drugs or alcohol.ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills stayed in-house by promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady as their new head coach.
