A man was arrested early Saturday at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after allegedly threatening violence and barricading himself in a restroom, according to an arrest affidavit.
Joshua Mancias allegedly threatened to "shoot this place up" if airport staff didn't "get the boss man," the affidavit said. The incident began around 1:34 a.m. when airport employees reported that Mancias had locked himself in a single-stall restroom and was screaming. Airport-based Austin police officers responded to the scene and evacuated people from the area near the restroom. Officers also evacuated three people sheltering in a United Airlines baggage office.Despite police orders to exit the restroom, Mancias allegedly remained barricaded inside for approximately 40 minutes. The standoff forced airport officials to suspend baggage claim operations and divert police resources from other areas of the airport.
Mancias faces multiple charges, including interrupting critical infrastructure operations and making a false report that triggered an emergency response. He is also charged with threatening violence with intent to impair public transportation.Stay Connected
