The accused, who face charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering, on Wednesday appeared before the Free State High Court Judge President Cagney Musi in a pretrial hearing in Bloemfontein.

Our understanding was that his answers cannot be used against him [and] he agreed and proceeded on that basisSodi testified before the Zondo commission last year based on the understanding that the testimony would not be used against him in any criminal proceedings, said Hodes. The judge asked whether the application would fall away if the state did not use any evidence obtained from the Zondo commission, but Hodes retorted: “It is not as simple as that.”
