Eligible Lorain County Ohio Edison customers can receive free energy‑efficient appliances and lighting through a new LCCAA partnership.
The program is open to income‑eligible Ohio Edison customers who live in Lorain County and earn at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty line.that qualifying Ohio Edison customers can receive free, energy‑efficient appliances and lighting through a new partnership designed to help families lower their monthly utility bills.
Through the initiative, LCCAA and Ohio Edison provide energy assessments on refrigerators and freezers. If an appliance is found to be inefficient, it can be replaced at no cost to the homeowner. Participants may also receive energy‑efficient light bulbs for fixtures throughout their home, if needed. The program is open to income‑eligible Ohio Edison customers who live in Lorain County and earn at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty line. Homeowners and renters can both qualify, as long as they own the refrigerator or freezer being assessed. Renters will also need written permission from their landlord, along with a waiver of liability. Applicants must have had electric service in their name for at least 12 months and will need to provide some basic documentation, including a current electric bill, proof of income for household members 18 and older, copies of Social Security cards and a driver’s license or state ID. Households already participating in assistance programs such as HEAP or PIPP may be especially likely to qualify. In some cases, recent HEAP or PIPP application information can be used to help verify income eligibility. LCCAA, founded in 1966 as part of the national War on Poverty, has long focused on helping Lorain County residents build stability and self‑sufficiency. Agency officials say this program continues that mission by addressing one of the biggest monthly expenses many families face — energy costs. Residents interested in applying can find the application and additional details on the LCCAA website.
