SAN ANTONIO - As Easter weekend unfolds in San Antonio , local restaurants are experiencing varied levels of success. While some eateries are bustling with customers, others are not seeing the anticipated boost in business.
"With Easter being such a big family holiday celebration, and family members traveling back into San Antonio...it's already been busier this year than last year, and so we hope to see that trend continue," said Bevie Davis of Peasanos. However, for some business owners, the holiday has not brought the expected surge. O.T. Mendez, owner of Mexico Lindo, described the weekend as one of the slowest of the year for his restaurant. "As the week went along, it became quite a bit slower than normal," he said. Mendez explained that despite an increase in overall sales compared to last year, profits have declined due to rising expenses. "Even though our overall sales are up year to year, our profits are down quite a bit because of what everybody knows, cost of eggs, cost of meat," he said. This trend is not unique to San Antonio. A 2024 report by Forbes indicates that the average expenses required to maintain a small business nearly match the revenue they generate, leaving many entrepreneurs in Texas barely breaking even. Despite closing his business for Easter, Mendez remains hopeful for a better second half of the year.
