Letter: Ask yourself: What noncitizen would risk jail, deportation, being shot or beaten by ICE just to cast an illegal vote?Yes, I call nonsense regarding the SAVE Act and its goal supposedly to ensure voting security, with its main objective of making sure noncitizens aren’t voting in our elections.
Noble thought ... But let’s delve a little deeper. As has been documented numerous times by numerous independent sources, actual cases of noncitizens voting is so small that the number is infinitesimal. The whole idea is akin to sending a company of soldiers to kill an ant ... or, an oft repeated analogy, a solution looking for a nonexisting problem. Moving from the empirical to the logical — and I really hope you give this part some serious thought: What noncitizen in this country would risk jail, deportation, being shot or beaten by ICE just to cast an illegal vote? They wouldn’t. If you think they would show up in droves — risking the aforementioned outcomes, well, I can only say you would be dumber than the noncitizen attempting to do so. Many on the right, including our own little Sen. Lee, are saying if we don’t support the SAVE Act, then we are being unpatriotic. I say we are aware of knowing the nonsense stench when we smell it.Help The Tribune report the stories others can’t—or won’t.
