Leigh Wood has spoken about his upcoming fight with Josh Warrington this weekend as he prepares to defend his WBA featherweight world title
The 35-year-old will be defending his WBA featherweight crown against Warrington this weekend after winning back his world title from Mauricio Lara in May. It has been an eventful year for Wood, who suffered a stoppage loss in February, only to bounce back in incredible style with an imperious decision victory in his rematch with Lara, three months later.
Wood, though, heads into the fight full of confidence after his victory over Lara; something that Warrington could not achieve in their own two-fight series. The Nottinghamshire fighter feels he is well-aware of what Warrington will bring to the ring after keeping a close eye on his recent fights.READ MORE: Nottingham Forest transfer details revealed as Chelsea stance on Andrey Santos outlined
“I’ve been ringside for his last three fights, I’ve seen him get hurt,” Wood continued. “ I know he’s tough. I don’t believe the people he’s been hurt by hit as hard as me and at the same time aren’t as calculated as me, so they might land a few good shots but are they good finishers? Have they got good set ups? I don’t think they have.”
Despite his belief in successfully defending his world title, there is no bad blood between Wood and Warrington. This was demonstrated by the ‘Leeds Warrior’ presenting Wood with a birthday cake at a press conference in August and the Nottinghamshire fighter has said that he looks forward to spending time with his opponent after the final bell.
