Leigh Wood has reflected on his long journey to become a world champion ahead of his clash with Josh Warrington.
His impressive performance against Lara was the latest in a long line of headline-grabbing displays. “There were times when I thought I wasn’t going to get the opportunities. There were times when I thought it might pass me by,” Wood told DAZN, as part of a face-off with Warrington. “I always knew I was good enough to win these fights and be at this level. But I thought, ‘Am I going to get these opportunities?’
“One time there was talks, Frampton’s opponent pulled out of a show. I think it was about three weeks’ notice. I told my management I’d take it. That’s how desperate I was getting at the time. There were times when I thought it may not ever happen.”
