The 'Beetlejuice' director considered Anniston's Michael Biehn for the role in the 1989 superhero film that changed blockbusters forever.
Michael Biehn arrives at the premiere of the film "Take Me Home Tonight" in Los Angeles, Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Michael Biehn , born in Anniston, Ala., made a name for himself in Hollywood as Kyle Reese in James Cameron’s 1984 hit “The Terminator” and went on to roles in the “Titanic” director’s other classic sci-fi films such as “Aliens” and “The Abyss.” But the movie landscape would have looked a bit different had he landed a role in Tim Burton’s “Batman.
The meeting went well, Biehn said, but the part eventually went to Keaton, who made the role his own in that film and the sequel, “Batman Returns.”After the meeting with Burton, Biehn’s agent said Burton was considering two choices: “It was either that choice or me and Robin Williams – Robin Williams playing the Joker – and that he was making up his mind about that,” Biehn said.
When Burton chose Keaton/Nicholson, Biehn said he just “went on to the next thing,” unaware “Batman” would become an iconic film.Born in 1956, Biehn moved to Nebraska at a young age before attending the University of Arizona. His movie career began with an uncredited bit part in 1978’s “Grease” before landing a lead role in “The Terminator” alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. He’d again work with Cameron on “Aliens” and “The Abyss.
