The Biden administration plans to send a top representative to the U.S.-Mexico border region on Friday – but it won’t be the vice president.
After the tour, which is expected to begin around noon local time, Mayorkas is expected to address reporters at a news conference about his visit, the station reported.The secretary’s plan mirror the types of actions that Republicans and other critics have been asking Harris and President Biden to take since assuming their offices in January.
Instead, the administration is sending Mayorkas – making at least his fourth border visit -- and other officials to the region. On Thursday, the vice president held an in-person meeting on voting rights, as election laws at the state level continue to be a contentious issue between the two major parties.
