Vice President Kamala Harris held a “virtual” meeting Friday with the president of Mexico – while another member of the Biden administration visited the U.S.-Mexico border in person.
Friday was the 45th day that the vice president has neither traveled to the border nor held a news conference about her border-related duties since late March, whenHarris spoke online Friday with Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador as part of her stated review of the"root causes" of the migrant crisis – in which thousands of Latin American migrants, including unaccompanied minors, have been seeking to enter the U.

The vice president also plans June visits to Mexico and Guatemala – even though she hasn’t announced any plans to visit the border areas of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or her home state of California.in the so-called"Northern Triangle" region of Central America, composed of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador -- in everything from stemming violence against marginalized groups to assisting farmers to plant drought-resistant crops. She has touted an initial $310 million in aid being sent to the region, part of a broader $4 billion planned investment by the Biden administration.
