A judge has approved a plan by court-appoint receiver John Young Jr. for the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System to take over the Prichard Water & Sewer Board.) - A judge has given the green light for the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System to take over the troubled Prichard water and sewer utility. The MAWSS proposal is a key provision of a draft master plan developed by court-appointed Prichard water receiver John S. Young Jr.

MAWSS recently indicated a willingness to consider taking over the Prichard utility. If it agrees, the Alabama Legislature would have to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot, and voters would have to approve it. “The Court encourages local legislators and other key stakeholders to move forward with proposing legislation necessary to effectuate the Receiver’s recommendation to allow for a public vote on the issue as quickly as possible,” the judge wrote. “Time is of the essence.”last year after finding that the Prichard Water & Sewer Board defaulted on $55.78 million that it borrowed in 2019.

Youngpeter wrote that he understands those challenges and extended the receiver’s deadline for submitting the final master plan until Jan. 31 next year. He also extended the term of the court-created Citizens Advisory Council, made up of Prichard and Chickasaw residents. “The Court remains of the opinion that the Receiver is uniquely suited to address each of the foregoing issues, and therefore, the Receiver’s appointment remains merited and appropriate,” he wrote.Court records reveal new details about death of Mobile man allegedly by girlfriend‘We lost a good one’: Best friend of Taylor Rawlins speaks out after deadly stabbing
