After 10 years away from NASCAR, how will the multi-discipline veteran handle the Next Gen Car?
Juan Pablo Montoya is set to run his first NASCAR race since 2014 next month at Watkins Glen with 23XI Racing, the team announced Friday. The 48-year-old is one of only three drivers to record wins in F1, IndyCar, and NASCAR. Montoya had seven wins in F1, five wins in IndyCar, including two Indianapolis 500 victories, and two wins in the NASCAR Cup Series.'I'm excited to be here and to be honest, it's an amazing opportunity to be with 23XI,' Montoya said in his statement.
Hopefully, Montoya will fare better in the No. 50 Mobil 1 entry. This will be Montoya's first time racing in the Next Gen or Generation 7 Car; Montoya previously experienced NASCAR's shift from Generation 5 cars to Generation 6 in 2013, his final year racing full-time.'When they said I could go and race Watkins Glen, I thought it would be a lot of fun. I haven't been in a Cup car for a long time,' Montoya said.
