FOX10 News has confirmed Coach John McKenzie is heading back to Vigor High School.
) - He has been approved as a physical education teacher and will be resuming his head coaching duties.After going 5-5 in his first season, McKenzie led Vigor to a 14-1 season and a state championship in 4A.
The Wolves had to second best defense in 4A during their state title season, allowing just 11.9 points per game. McKenzie left Vigor to take the Murphy job in 2022 where he went 2-7 in his only season with the Panthers.Through four seasons, McKenzie has a record of 24-20 overall with two playoff appearances and experience at the 4A and 6A level.Vigor has missed the playoffs in both seasons since their state title win, making it the first time since 1980-81 the Wolves have missed the playoffs two straight years.
