14-year-old Missouri boy bitten in shark attack shares harrowing story
On July 3rd, Josiah Garrison was swimming at Daytona Beach Shores in Florida when he felt something grab his leg.Josiah says at first, he thought someone was playing a prank on him but then he saw the blood in the water. A shark sank its teeth into his left leg. Josiah immediately began fighting his way back to the beach.
“I realized that they had a lot stronger grip than a person… then I pulled away again and I felt bites and I turned around and saw it and then I realized it was a shark,” he explained. “I was only in knee deep water so I walked...ran...I had to start hopping on one leg eventually, though.” Garrison’s dad, Aaron, says the response of medical personnel couldn’t have been better. The Garrison family was vacationing from Nixa, Missouri.
“Within a minute, there was a lifeguard driving his truck down the beach right behind us, and we flagged him down and he hopped out and immediately helped provide first aid for us so it went probably as good as you could possibly ask for as far as getting him medical attention right after it happened,” said Aaron.“We were really surprised because you look at everything they say to avoid this and we were in shallow water, we were in a group--- there wasn’t any avoiding this,” he added.
