“It was basically the first step of our goal — we’ve got to win that Hardy,” Huskies’ linebacker Seth Hundeby said after the cold-weather victory, which kicked off at 1 p.m. with the temperature at minus-14C. “It’s a long season, it’s a lot of games. We play in the ridiculous heat; we play in the ridiculous cold. All those runs, all those lifts, it was all worth it to get to this step. And we’re not done yet. But it felt really good to check one box, so that we can keep going.

The Huskies nursed a 16-8 lead after three quarters, and squashed the Thunderbirds’ hopes with back-to-back interceptions midway through the fourth frame. The first was a Finn Marcotte-Cribb pick on the UBC nine, and he ran it into the end zone for a touchdown.
