Bernhard Langer, Steven Alker and Padraig Harrington are chasing glory Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the final event on the PGA Champions Tour.
With the PGA Tour Champions season ending, two exciting races are unfolding at the Charles Schwab Cup at Phoenix Country Club.
Langer won’t win the season title for the seventh time after being mathematically eliminated, but a tournament victory could tie the Champions record of 45 wins. Langer finished the first round with a 5-under 66 and is tied for fourth, but he shouldn’t be counted out. Last week, he captured his 44th tournament, winning by six shots for his three victories this season. Since joining in 2007, he’s had at least one victory in each of his 15 seasons.
The race brewing with Steven Alker, John Huston and Stephen Ames, all at 65 after the first round, becomes even more crucial with Alker's quest for the season title on the line. Coming into the PGA Champions Tour finale, Alker only had one challenger for the Cup. Padraig Harrington is the only other golfer who has a chance to take the top prize and $1 million bonus if he wins the tournament and sees Alker finish outside the top five.
