He notes that current Huskies’ head coach Scott Flory and defensive co-ordinator Warren Muzika played on that 1996 Vanier Cup champion team, and he says he can see — as an outsider — the influence former head coach Brian Towriss had on their own approach. Nill thinks they’re building something good at UBC, a program with championship aspirations, and he sees games like the one coming up Saturday as a key component to the team’s growth. Up until this past Saturday, UBC hadn’t won a playoff game since 2017, which is also the last time they appeared in the Hardy Cup game.
“I feel we’re laying the foundation for a strong program that’s sustainable. And going into one of the toughest places in the country to win … you have to have those experiences before you can expect to be at the top.”Article content
