Hundreds of Rochester 8th graders with an eye on the future gathered for the "Gear Up!" program. Oct. 13, 2023.
“What we hope to accomplish is to make sure that we cultivate our young people, make them feel a sense of energy and support behind this partnership,” said Taurean Uthman, Vice President of Youth and Education at Urban League of Rochester. The "Gear Up!" program is designed to increase the number of students who enter higher education after high school.
Dyaisha Fair, an RCSD graduate, is now a senior at Syracuse University and star basketball player for the Orange."It was a wonderful experience to be there to share the moment with them and to be able to talk to them as if I'm one of them which I am, I'm just a little bit older now," said Fair.
