Rochester, N.Y. An Israeli native who lives in Rochester had to flee from a visit to Israel over the weekend once Hamas attacked the country, sparking war.
Dalit Spindel immigrated from Israel to New York 11 years ago and visited her home country over the weekend to surprise her father for his 75th birthday, just before Hamas launched an attack against Israel.
"We ended up celebrating but, the next morning, waking up, the celebration definitely ended," said Spindel. She and her family had woken up to war, as the terror organization, Hamas, had launched a surprise attack at the Israeli-Gaza border." realizing that they don’t even know the numbers of people who have been kidnapped," she said.
She is now finding strength alongside other Rochester Israelis who are also watching the horror unfold in their home country, including her friend, Rotem Haddas, who immigrated from Israel to the U.S. 13 years ago."Just yesterday, I was talking with my mom and there were sirens while we were talking, so she had to hang and it was awful," Haddas explained. "I feel that it’s not fair for them to have to go through this.
