Marvel's Wolverine with Insomniac Venom from one announced and one rumored game

While Marvel's Wolverine has been developer Insomniac's most anticipated title for a while, recent news surrounding a possible Venom spin-off might cause changes. The idea of a game similar to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales has long been rumored for Venom, but the growing possibility of its existence could frustrate those looking forward to their favorite X-Men's adventure.

Marvel's Venom has been desired by fans ever since Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in 2023, as a game allowing players to take on the role of the Lethal Protector. With a playable section as Venom in the Insomniac sequel, and loose plot threats connected to Cletus Cassidy , it was surprising that no plans seemed to point toward a Venom game until 2025. Recent News Hints At Insomniac Venom Spin-Off Game Leaks Seem To Show Development On A Symbiote Story While there was no official announcement, an update on Marvel's Venom seems to have been leaked through an inside source to MP1st. Apparently, the Venom spin-off game fans have been asking for has been in development, at least within its early stages of development. This story comes with information regarding a fully playable Venom, within a title similar in scale to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. This game even seems to have a planned release within the next year or two, indicating that Insomniac has been hard at work on this spin-off ever since Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was finished. Some story leaks of the Venom game seem to be following some details fans had predicted, including Eddie Brock as the host for the Venom symbiote and Carnage as the main villain. The credibility of this news is still up in the air, but it does bring into question what game Insomniac wants to prioritize if the Venom title's existence is real. With the expectation of Marvel's Spider-Man 3 down the line, players may have to wait for some characters to get their dedicated game over others. Another Marvel Game Might Push Back Wolverine's Release No Gameplay Might Be An Unfortunate Sign Although someone like me is incredibly excited at the prospect of Venom getting his own game, it does raise concerns about Marvel's Wolverine. The teaser trailer for the Insomniac Wolverine game was released in 2021, nearly four years ago. To this day, there is no gameplay for this title at all, only the same cinematic trailer from 2021's showcase. This bodes poorly for any news around Marvel's Wolverine, as it could still be in the very early stages of development due to the Venom game taking priority. This would make sense, as Insomniac already had the pieces to create the Venom spin-off using the pieces they already had in place. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 had an entire section where players could take control of Venom, using far different systems of movement and attacks than Peter Parker or Miles Morales. This could have laid the groundwork for the Venom spin-off game's own unique systems. Even though development teams would have a lot of useful tools they could recycle into the spin-off, making a game from the ground up takes time. Especially if you are to include an original story, unique environments, and other additional details that need to be made from scratch. All of these factors may have led to internal debate about which Marvel character Insomniac wanted to push for their next release. Venom makes the most sense, as the figure was already featured prominently in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but a big push for the Lethal Protector's game will inevitably only lead to more silence surrounding Wolverine's solo outing. Multiple Delays & Fading News Already Have Wolverine Fans Frustrated The Biggest Complaints Come From Great Anticipation Most fans of Insomniac's Marvel games would be plenty excited about the prospect of a Venom spin-off...two years ago. Now, even though the Lethal Protector's title will undoubtedly be popular, players looking forward to Marvel's Wolverine may only see their disappointment grow as the spin-off keeps more news about Logan's game in the dark. Massive leaks from Insomniac in 2023 included an extended piece of supposed Marvel's Wolverine footage, which drew heavy criticism from fans. This could have led to even more reworked systems, delaying the game further. The silence regarding Marvel's Wolverine has been intentional, but despite transparent communication, it has made the excitement around the game die down significantly. If Venom's spin-off gains more news, such as an official announcement, gameplay trailer, or more, it only highlights how further away the Wolverine title is from actually getting into a player's hands. Multiple PlayStation State of Play showcases have shown no news for Wolverine, not even another cinematic trailer. The ambiguity of how the game will play only makes the delays in information seem even longer, while a Venom spin-off will likely have systems players can expect to see from Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Until Insomniac releases more details, the news about the Venom game only serves to put the developer's other superhero title on the backburner for now. Considering how long the wait for Marvel's Wolverine has already been, the sudden update for Venom's spin-off creates an unclear direction that might cause more harm than hype.
