After landing on the nonfootball injury list upon reporting to training camp Wednesday, Williams has now been medically cleared to practice.
The Mike Macdonald era of the Seattle Seahawks opened training camp this week by placing an even dozen members of the roster on either the physically unable to perform or nonfootball injury list, delaying the start of their camp. However, just a day after announcing that five members of the rookie class would not be able to start camp on schedule, the Hawks announced that one rookie has passed their physical.
Dee Williams signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, where he was a record setting punt returner while also playing significant snaps in special teams coverage. A converted defensive back, Williams seems unlikely to compete much in a crowded wide receiver room, but with the team short on kick and punt return experience, it’s not inconceivable that he could sneak onto the roster by laying claim to several roles on special teams.
