Alaska continues to grapple with icy conditions despite the recent easing of the storm. Rain showers and gusty winds are expected to persist throughout the day, leading to hazardous road conditions.

Dangerously icy conditions remain with us this morning as temperatures are hovering in the 30s and 40s. While winds have died down, we’ll still see max winds of 45 mph across parts of Southcentral through the day. Any locations that deal with winds will remain on the warmer side, with additional rain and areas of wintry mix impacting Southcentral. Farther north into the Interior, snow is spreading through the region, with warmer weather.

Highs are expected to remain in the 10s and 20s for many areas of the Interior, with locations near the Alaska Range topping out in the 40s.Although the stormy weather has died down, many areas are seeing continued rain showers and gusty winds. Any rain that continues to fall across Southcentral will lead to additional concerns on the roadways. While the main roads are primarily fine, outside of some pockets of ice, side roads, parking lots and sidewalks will be the biggest concern for today. Use caution when out on the roads and shuffle when walking across icy areas. Rain showers will be on and off through the day, with many locations catching some dry time today. Even then, roads will be an issue. Temperatures have been hovering above freezing for several hours now, with ponding occurring on the roads. Not only will hydroplaning be an issue, but skidding and sliding will occur if you go too fast. Things will quiet down later this evening, with Wednesday shaping up to be a transition day for us. While some lingering moisture will be evident, the biggest concern for Wednesday will be continued icy conditions. By Wednesday night into Thursday, our next storm system will move into the Northern Gulf of Alaska. This storm will once again bring additional wind concerns, rain, snow and freezing rain (although not as big of a concern as this storm)
