ICE launched enhanced immigration enforcement operations in Atlanta, partnering with agencies like the FBI and ATF. The operations aimed to remove potentially dangerous criminal aliens from communities. Walter Valladares, a Honduran seeking asylum, was arrested in Lilburn, Georgia, sparking concern within local school districts about the impact on students.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ), in collaboration with federal agencies including the FBI, ATF, and DEA, launched enhanced targeted operations in Atlanta on Sunday to enforce U.S. immigration laws and prioritize public safety and national security. The agency's spokesperson stated that these operations aim to remove potentially dangerous criminal aliens from communities.

The FBI Atlanta Field Office confirmed their assistance to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other federal law enforcement partners in immigration enforcement efforts. The exact number of arrests made during these operations remains unclear. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) is actively seeking details from federal agencies and local police. ICE also announced similar targeted operations in Chicago on the same day. Walter Valladares, a 52-year-old native of Honduras, was apprehended at his residence in Lilburn, Georgia, approximately 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, by ICE authorities on Sunday morning. His brother, Edwin Valladares, informed the AJC that Walter had entered the U.S. about a year and a half ago and was in the process of seeking asylum. He maintained that Walter has no criminal record except for a single traffic violation. In response to recent federal actions regarding immigration, DeKalb County School District Superintendent Devon Q. Horton addressed parents, assuring them of the district's commitment to the safety and success of all students. He outlined procedures for staff in case immigration authorities visit their schools, emphasizing immediate notification to school administrators, who will then contact the DCSD Police Department and document the visit. He stressed that access to students or their information is prohibited without a court order or exigent circumstances. Similarly, Gwinnett County Superintendent Calvin J. Watts reassured parents that a child's immigration status or that of their parents does not affect their right to a public education and reaffirmed the district's commitment to upholding the dignity, rights, and safety of all students
