ICE launched its first major enforcement operation under the Trump administration, resulting in over 460 arrests nationwide. The operation targeted undocumented immigrants with criminal records, including charges of sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and drug offenses.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) conducted a nationwide operation that resulted in more than 460 arrests across several states, marking its first major enforcement action under the Trump administration. The operation, which took place between January 21 and January 22, targeted individuals with criminal charges or convictions, including sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and drug offenses.
Arrests spanned multiple countries of origin, such as Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Senegal, and Venezuela. ICE also issued over 420 detainers, requesting local law enforcement to notify ICE when undocumented individuals are released from custody. These detainers focused on individuals charged with severe crimes such as homicide, sexual assault, and robbery. \While specific details regarding all 460 arrests were not disclosed, the operation highlighted ICE's focus on apprehending undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Arrests occurred in multiple states, though comprehensive information was directed to FOX 32 Chicago. \Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, emphasized that ICE prioritizes public safety threats, but will also target individuals in sanctuary cities. 'Right out of the gate, it's public safety threats, those who are in the country illegally that have been convicted, arrested for serious crime,' Homan stated. 'But let me be clear. There's not only public safety threats that will be arrested, because in sanctuary cities, we're not allowed to get that public safety threat in the jail, which means we got to go to the neighborhood and find him.' As the immigration landscape anticipates significant changes in the coming years, FOX 5 NY will continue to provide updates with reporters Jessica Formoso and Stephanie Bertini on the ground
