It makes sense to assume that being in a committed relationship would ward off loneliness. When you’re partnered up, you always have someone to hang with, confide in, and vent to at the end of an annoying day. Not to mention that Western pop culture—including practically every rom-com—constantly feeds us the idea that “the one” should be your lover, partner, and best friend.
You may know you feel empty or isolated, but getting to the root of the problem will help ensure you can be specific with your partner about what you need to feel more connected. Talk to your partner—but keep the focus on you. Once you’ve got a clearer sense of what’s making you so lonely, share your self-discoveries with your partner. Just try not to play the blame game.
