Toyota reports that sales of all of its electrified models — hybrid, all-electric and hydrogen — accounted for a record 48% of total volume in August.
Toyota Motor Corp. continued riding the wave of U.S. demand for hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles in August that’s fueling sales of its San Antonio -built Tundra pickup. The Japanese automaker said Wednesday it sold 198,383 vehicles in the U.S. last month, a 1.9% increase from the same month a year ago, with sales of electrified models — including hybrid, all-electric and hydrogen vehicles — accounting for a record 48% of total volume.
Toyota’s hybrids increase sales through first half of 2024, including San Antonio-built pickup, SUV Executives have said they’re taking at look at converting more of the lineup to hybrids. “Going forward, we plan to evaluate, carline by carline, whether going all-hybrid makes sense,” David Christ, Toyota’s U.S. sales head, said in mid-August. Its experience with the Camry, the top-selling sedan in the U.S., could boost that strategy.
