Hundreds of people took a leap of faith into the icy waters of Lake Evergreen to raise money for the INSPIRE program, which provides adventures for people with disabilities.

Hundreds of people in various outfits lined up to ring in the new year with a chilly splash by jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Evergreen on Wednesday. The annual event, filled with smiles and memorable stories, also supports the Evergreen Park and Recreation District's INSPIRE program, which provides adventures for people with disabilities. The program, which started 31 years ago, was inspired by a young man named Michael with Down syndrome who wanted to participate in an activity.

Now, over 137 people are involved in the program. This year, the event capped at an all-time high of 500 participants, each making a $50 donation to support the program. The plunge is a major event for Active4All Evergreen, as the foundation raises funds for the INSPIRE program to help with scholarships, programming, and purchasing specialized equipment. The Frost family has seen firsthand the benefits of the INSPIRE program, as their 10-year-old son Cameron participates in it. They find it particularly valuable because finding help for children with disabilities can be challenging in smaller communities. The INSPIRE program allows Cameron to explore different places every day. Lindsay Frost, Cameron's mother, was busy checking in the polar plungers and ensuring their registration. She shared that she didn't have time to get the official logo on the stamp, leading to the unique Cameron stamp.
