While Gore Verbinski's Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die redeems itself on home video following a lackluster theatrical run, another sci-fi comedy revolving around time travel is competing for audiences at home.
Verbinski's movie had a head start, dropping on PVOD platforms around two weeks ago and gaining traction since then. The movie received positive reviews ahead of its theatrical release earlier this year, but was only able to gross around half of its reported $20 million budget at the box office. However, its"Certified Fresh" 83% score is coming in handy now, as it continues to be one of the most-watched movies in the United States. Its newer counterpart, on the other hand, quickly jumped to the front of the queue. According to FlixPatrol, it became the number one movie on the domestic Hulu chart immediately after its release on March 27; it was also among the top five most-watched movies on the global Disney+ chart at the same time. Written and directed by BenDavid Grabinski, best known as the co-creator of Netflix's Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the film in question stars Vince Vaughn, James Marsden, and Eiza González in the lead roles. It revolves around a couple of friends who get sucked into a criminal conspiracy that involves time travel. The movie received mostly positive reviews, and is currently sitting at a"Certified Fresh" 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie doesn't yet have an official Rotten Tomatoes consensus, but Collider's Ross Bonaime gave it a positive review. Comparing it to the crime comedies of Shane Black, he wrote,"In many ways, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice feels like a throwback, specifically to a time when a fantastic action-comedy like this could’ve thrived in theaters. The action is fast, fun, and over-the-top, the comedy is genuinely hysterical, and this cast is a blast to watch."
