Inside the unraveling of Mediakix, a prominent influencer-marketing agency that has lost most of its staff, missed some payments, and disconnected its phone
of COVID-19. As the influencer-marketing industry — and advertising industry at large — grappled with how to pivot and recalibrate during the pandemic, so too did Mediakix and its new parent.
One external email sent to an influencer from a Mediakix staffer in January said the company had been undergoing"refinancing" since October 2020 that was expected to be completed by the end of January. But subsequent external emails sent to another influencer in March and April also mention"refinancing" as a reason payments were delayed.
That same month, Stadiumred and Mediakix were named in an eviction action regarding Mediakix's Santa Monica office. "That kind of shocked pretty much everybody and definitely knocked the morale," the second former Mediakix staffer said. "There was no sense of panic or anything," the first former Mediakix staffer said.
