Michael Iskander as David looking forward as Goliath's shadow lingers behind him on the poster for 'House of David'

After a year of waiting for the next leg of the journey, the return of House of David to Prime Video is underway. Season 2 was originally available months ago on Wonder Project, an add-on subscription aimed at more family and faith-friendly entertainment.

But for those who didn't subscribe to Wonder Project to catch House of David Season 2 early, the biblical epic returns in earnest on March 27 with another batch of pulse-pounding episodes. Before diving into Season 2, let's revisit the biggest moments of House of David Season 1. 'House of David' Season 1 Begins with the End of King Saul's Reign The series premiere of House of David takes us back in time to the ancient Middle East, where the Kingdom of Israel is at war with the surrounding nations. After 25 years leading his people, King Saul has finally allowed his pride to overtake him. After defeating King Agag and his army of cannibalistic Amalekites, Saul captures and humiliates the fallen king rather than eradicating the Amalekites as he had been instructed by God. Even worse, he chooses to offer up his own sacrifices to the Lord, thus disobeying the sacred Law of Moses. Upon discovering this, the prophet Samuel reveals to Israel's first monarch that he has been rejected as king — leaving him in the hands of an evil spirit. Obviously, this causes major conflict within the House of Saul. As the king begins to suffer from horrible visions of death and destruction, Queen Ahinoam brings a priestess of the pagan god Baal into her home, making her husband overly reliant on magical remedies. Saul's disturbed nature then begins to take root within the rest of his family as well, as his curse begins to affect those closest to him. Although his youngest daughter, Princess Mychal , and her older brother, Prince Jonathan , continue to honor their father and the Lord above, Prince Eshbaal is soon banished from the kingdom after unrepentantly breaking the sacred Law of Moses. Likewise, Princess Merab finds herself on the wrong end of Saul's wrath when a wedding is stolen out from under her by her father's angry tirades, leaving her in despair. Posts By Chris McPherson As rumors begin to spread that Samuel has chosen someone else to replace Saul as king, Saul's second-in-command, Abner , sends the Edomite servant Doeg after Samuel for the truth. Eventually, Saul himself orders the prophet's arrest, though Samuel evades Saul's men at every turn. Of course, Saul has bigger issues to deal with, as the five kingdoms of Philistia — Israel's longstanding enemy — are uniting under King Achish in hopes of taking out the royal family and claiming the lands as their own. With the Philistines encroaching, Saul is at his wits' end. David Rises From Shepherd to Warrior in 'House of David' Season 1 So, where is the titular hero in all of this? What about the man that Samuel appointed to replace Saul? Well, as Saul and his house are in a sudden freefall, David grows into the next leader of Israel. To the shock of his entire family, the prophet arrives at David's home in Bethlehem. After rejecting all of his older brothers, including the capable firstborn Eliab , the young shepherd boy is anointed to be the next King of Israel. It turns out that David has found favor with God, being a man after his own heart, regardless of his complicated family history. As he tends to his father Jesse's sheep, David proves himself to be a capable warrior, killing a lion in battle, but those skills are not what first bring him to the palace in Gibeah. Indeed, in a twist of fate, David finds himself hauled off to the palace to play music for Saul, which is the only thing that will soothe the king from his spiritual torment. While serving the king, David quickly falls in love with Mychal, which puts him in a strangely compromising position. Not only is she the king's daughter, but Samuel strictly informed David not to tell anyone about his anointing. Indeed, it's this secret that could mean the very death of his entire family, something that Eliab continues to remind his brother. Of course, it's also unfortunate for David because Joab , a high-ranking soldier in Saul's army and David's cousin, holds a candle for Mychal himself. Still, David and Mychal love one another, and though the latter believes that anything between them would be impossible, the truth about his destiny convinces David that it may just work out after all. Eventually, unable to cure Saul's condition, David returns to Bethlehem. While there, he receives a vision of a man with a sword, which Samuel reveals is a picture of the Commander of the Lord's Army, whom Moses' successor Joshua once saw before the battle of Jericho in the Book of Joshua. The prophet encourages David to embrace the vision, to ultimately accept the role that God has given him in the nation's future. As Israel prepares for war against the Philistine armies, David goes to the battlefield to support his brothers — only his role is much bigger than he initially imagined. 'House of David' Season 1 Ends With the Battle Between David and Goliath While Saul is reeling and David is rising, King Achish is gathering the armies of the Five Kings of Philistia. But it's only after venturing into the dark regions of Gath to acquire his champion that Achish has the forces necessary to wage war on Israel. After searching out a race of giants , Achish makes an alliance with Goliath , who vows to fight on his behalf against Saul and the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Assembling with King Ashkelon , King Ashdod , and King Yurza to his side, Achish leads the march against Israel. Upon arriving at the Valley of Elah, Goliath challenges Israel to send out a champion to battle him in head-to-head combat, a challenge offered every day for 40 days before David arrives. Meanwhile, as Saul leaves the palace for war, Mychal and Merab follow their father from afar, deciding to go to him on the battlefield in hopes of quelling his tortured spirit. With the rest of the palace basically abandoned, Queen Ahinoam is surprised by the return of her son, Eshbaal. After months away due to his banishment, he has returned as a different man. It's here that he preemptively convinces his mother that Saul will die in battle, and that the only way to save the nation from complete destruction is to crown him king. But the most important plot points of House of David Season 1 revolve around the show's title character himself. In the season finale,"David and Goliath, Part 2," David makes it to the Valley of Elah and tells Saul that he will be willing to battle the giant. In his view, if God is on his side, then nothing this Philistine can say or do will be able to stop the inevitable. Humored by David's spirit, Saul allows the young shepherd to challenge the giant, and with five smooth stones and a sling by his side, he walks out on the battlefield to face Goliath. Of course, anyone who knows the classic Bible story knows how this tale ends. As David charges the giant, he evades Goliath's attacks and sends a single stone directly into the forehead of his opponent, killing him instantly. Then, taking his iron sword, David removes Goliath's head. While some of the Philistines flee in terror, Achish leads a charge against David and Israel as the rest of Saul's army comes to the aid of the newly anointed future king.
