Much of Texas endured record heat on Monday with some areas even reaching 90 degrees, but when can we expect 100-degree heat?
It may only be the first week of February, but many parts of Texas have already experienced an early taste of summer. San Antonio touched 85 degrees on Monday, which tied a daily record high temperature for Feb. 3. Daytime highs in Dallas , Houston and Austin also reached the 80s, which tied or broke daily heat records. The hottest temperatures recorded Monday were in parts of West Texas and the southern Panhandle .
However, there’s a big difference when it comes to the city’s earliest date for triple-digit temperatures. Austin’s earliest 100-degree day on record happened on May 4 in 1984. However, just because Austin has never experienced a 100-degree day during February or March, doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Just last year, Killeen, a city 60 miles north of Austin, hit 100 degrees Feb. 26. So, under the right circumstances, triple-digit heat is possible this early in the year across Central Texas.
