Game of Thrones is easily one of HBO’s biggest properties, and although the flagship series went off the air almost seven full years ago, it’s still expanding to this day. HBO launched its first Game of Thrones spin-off back in 2022 with House of the Dragon, the prequel series set several hundred years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen .
Despite the ending of Game of Thrones souring fans on the franchise, both seasons of House of the Dragon have been massive hits. Game of Thrones further branched out earlier this year with the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s more intimate Dunk and Egg novellas. The first season of the show earned widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. It’s been over a month since the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms concluded, but the series refuses to be forgotten. Over on HBO Max's streaming charts, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is still one of the top 10 most popular watches in more than 25 countries around the world. The show was divisive upon its premiere for its unique take on the Game of Thrones story, taking what is traditionally a large-scale battle between families and houses and flipping the script. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms tells a much smaller story set over the course of just a few days at a jousting tourney. The second Game of Thrones spin-off stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon Targaryen, or Egg, Daniel Ings as Ser Lionel Baratheon, Shaun Thomas as Ser Raymund Fossoway, and Bertie Carvel as Ser Baelor Targaryen. This allowed for production on Season 2 to begin around the same time as Season 1 debuted, and while it paused briefly to ensure the response would be worth the investment, George R.R. Martin himself confirmed the cameras were rolling once more with a set visit. HBO has confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will premiere before the end of 2027.
