John Harbaugh is making progress in filling out his first coaching staff with the Giants.
Packers have reportedly hired former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, who left the Packers to become the head coach of the Dolphins. Leonhard, an assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator with the Broncos, will have his first chance to interview with teams this week following Denver’s AFC Championship matchup with the Patriots.
Leonhard, a Wisconsin native who played at the University of Wisconsin, had been considered a top candidate for the Green Bay DC job. A 10-year safety in the NFL, he played one season for Harbaugh in 2008.Prince, 60, has spent most of his NFL coaching career as a wide receivers coach. Prior to joining the Miami staff last season, he spent three seasons as the wide receivers coach with the Cowboys. He has also had stints as a WR coach with the Texans , Lions and Seahawks . His only experience as an offensive coordinator came at the college level during stints at Boise State and Portland State . Todd Monken, Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons with the Ravens, remains the frontrunner to land the job, but he is also a candidate for the head-coaching job in Cleveland. Willie Taggart, a running backs coach in Baltimore the last three seasons, has reportedly also interviewed for the offensive coordinator job and he is expected to follow Harbaugh to the Giants in some role. Taggart played quarterback for John Harbaugh’s father, Jack, at Western Kentucky and was also part of the Hilltoppers’ coaching staff that won a Division I-AA national championship in 2002.Dennis Johnson, who spent the last two seasons on Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore in the same role, will replaceBefore joining the Ravens, Johnson spent four seasons as the defensive line coach at Baylor. He also served as a defensive assistant at LSU, where he played on the defensive line for three seasons. With the Giants, Johnson will be inheriting one of the team’s strongest position groups, which includes three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackleBob Brookover has been the Eagles beat reporter at NJ Advance Media since November of 2023.
