A Genesee County family is grateful, after a terrifying ordeal involving their young daughter.

June 11th, 2024 will always be a day the Burr family remembers. Their three-year-old daughter Daysee was coughing up blood after a routine tonsil and adenoid procedure. Daysee was then taken by a Mercy Flight helicopter from Byron to Strong Memorial Hospital where she was able to recover, Monday, June 24, 2024. After losing a child in 2018, the Burr family almost went through the unthinkable again.

Daysee was then taken by a Mercy Flight helicopter from Byron to Strong Memorial Hospital where she was able to recover.“It's a genuine feeling of relief,” said Ashley Gurgel, an emergency services dispatcher who was on the phone with the Burr family during this ordeal. “Again, not everyone gets to see the outcome of these, not everyone gets to know that their patient is okay.”“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Makenzie Burr, Daysee’s mom.

“She'll sit there, and she will say, 'Why did I cough up blood? Why were all those people there? Why was I in a helicopter?'," said Makenzie Burr. "We didn't think she could remember all of that, but she did." During the get-together, Daysee received teddy bears and gifts from the first responders who helped save her life, even getting a tour of one of the ambulances they have on site.
