California ’s highest-in-the-nation gas prices are causing some people to turn to desperate measures to get the fuel they need. Surveillance video shared by Diamond Learning Center in Clovis, a daycare center that helps those with intellectual disabilities, show a man sneaking into a gated parking lot on Sunday toward a van used to transport students.

The center reported the incident to the Clovis Police Department. The California Post reached out to the center to inquire about any updates.Politicians from both parties are trying to ease the pain. State Republicans proposed a bill to suspend gas taxes. Democratic gubernatorial candidate and San Jose mayor Matt Mahan has also voiced support for the idea and called on Sacramento Democrats to follow suit. “To say I’m disappointed is an understatement,” state Sen. Tony Strickland, author of the bill, said. “We have an opportunity to help working families at a time when we have an affordability crisis.
