Fans of classic cars and rock and roll history are in for a treat, at the upcoming RM Sotheby’s London Event. Among the offerings at the auction will be a 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow that was formerly owned by the lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury.until his death, in 1991, the car is being sold the way it left the factory, finished in Silver Chalice on the outside, with a blue interior. Under the hood, a 6.75-liter V8 that made 189 hp when new, moves passengers along.of transportation.
Bought by Mercury’s company, Goose Productions Ltd, in 1979, the car’s provenance is strong. Files on record show that Mary Austin, the singer’s former partner, assisted him with the upkeep of the car. A letter from Jim Beach, Queen’s long-time manager, confirms that the car was Mercury’s. It further confirms that after his death, the car was used by the rock star’s sister, Kashmira Cook, until she bought it from the estate in 2003.
The Silver Shadow remained in her possession until 2013 when the current owner bought it at auction. The current owner appears to have kept it more as a than a car, though, because it has reportedly long been in storage. That means, the seller suggests, that it would be best to give the car a thorough inspection and, likely, a service before driving it.on November 5, all proceeds from the sale of this 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow will go to the Superhumans Center, a charity established to provide aid in Ukraine.
