Steven Vicario now faces decades in prison for sexually assaulting a teen girl.
DELAWARE, Ohio — A former Ohio National Guardsman was sentenced Wednesday to at least 25 years in prison after he was found guilty of multiple charges in the sexual assault of a teen minor, reports say.
Steven Vicario, 40, of Delaware, could spend more than 30 years in prison for convictions earlier this week on two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery, and one count of tampering with evidence,An indictment filed in April shows the reported assaults occurred in October 2022 and November 2023. WSYX reports the victim, a 14-year-old girl, told investigators that Vicario came into her room while she was sleeping and assaulted her.
“This is just the beginning for this survivor. Now that justice has been served, the healing can begin,” prosecutor Melissa Schiffel tells WSYX. “If you are a victim of sexual abuse, you are not alone. We stand ready to help with our law-enforcement partners.” Vicario’s DNA was found on the victim as well as other evidence indicating an assault had occurred, the Dispatch reports.
The National Guard tells the Dispatch that Vicario had been on indefinite suspension during the investigation and trial. The Guard is now taking steps to terminate him from his positions. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
