Dual Geelong premiership player Max Rooke is the lead plaintiff in a landmark class action against the AFL lodged in the Supreme Court of Victoria, seeking compensation for alleged damage to former players due to concussion.
Margalit Lawyers lodged the claim on Tuesday on behalf of players employed by one or more AFL clubs between 1985 and 14 March 2023 who either suffered concussion or suffered damage from concussions.
Geelong’s Max Rooke, a two-time premiership player with the Cats, battles for the ball with Hawthorn skipper Luke HodgeRooke played 135 games for the Cats from 2001-2010 and played in the club’s 2007 and 2009 premierships. The claim states he is one of seven or more players involved in the action and says that Rooke suffered concussion on approximately “20-30 occasions” and was knocked unconscious twice. It is unclear which other players are involved in the action.
