After a miserable season ends Sunday in Dallas, the Spurs will set out to ensure they don’t go through another one next year

For Spurs CEO R.C. Buford and the rest of the organization, the real work starts this week as the regular season ends and preparation for the June draft begins.DALLAS – At some point Sunday afternoon, the final horn will sound on the Spurs’ final game of the season at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

“This is the time of year where, while it seems like the season is over, a lot of work still has to be done,” Spurs CEO R.C. Buford said. A 129-127 victory over Portland in the Spurs’ first foray at Moody ensured they would keep their name out of the club record books. Keldon Johnson finished his first season as the head of the Spurs’ snake by averaging a team-best 22 points per game heading into Saturday.

“That is where the satisfaction comes in,” Popovich said. “You are not going to win a lot of games, but to watch that development in all those guys has been a joy.” By finishing with no better than the NBA’s third-worst record, the Spurs made sure to take care of their most pressing order of business.
