A California father faces serious charges after allegedly shooting at the driver who hit and killed his two-year-old son.

A tragic incident unfolded on Highway 33 in Stanislaus County, California, leaving a two-year-old boy dead and his father facing serious charges. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the young boy, identified as Benjamin Zepeda, was standing on the west shoulder of the highway with his father, Elvis Zepeda, near a food truck. Around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st, Benjamin ran into the road, where he was struck by a passing BMW.

The driver of the BMW immediately stopped at the scene. However, instead of offering assistance, Elvis Zepeda retrieved a handgun and fired multiple shots at the BMW, striking the rear of the vehicle. Benjamin, who had been struck by the car, was rushed to Doctors Medical Center but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The Modesto CHP and Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force launched an investigation into the shooting. Through the collection of evidence, they identified Elvis Zepeda as the shooter. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. The CHP expressed their gratitude to the Patterson Police Department and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department for their assistance in the investigation, emphasizing their shared commitment to creating a safer community. A GoFundme campaign has been established by a family member to help cover the funeral expenses for Benjamin Zepeda
