It may have been over a decade since Bethesda launched the last mainline entry in the Fallout franchise and a release date for Fallout 5 feels further away than ever, but not all hope is lost, as one team has found a way to bring one beloved installment to modern-day gamers.
So yes, Fallout 5 can wait, as we are now getting an open-world Fallout 2 remake. The Wait For Fallout 5 Just Got Easier With Bethesda head Todd Howard giving us little to no information about Fallout 5, other than that its events will be closely tied to Prime Video's Fallout storyline, fans are starting to lose enthusiasm when it comes to the decade-long wait. However, with Fallout's multiplayer spin-off title, Fallout 76, gaining more traction than ever in recent years, things could definitely be worse. Now, just as hope dwindles once more, the team behind Fallout 4: Project Arroyo are here to save the day with their open-world Fallout 2 remake. First released back in 1998 and developed by Black Isle Studios before the IP was acquired by Bethesda, Fallout 2 is a classic, and now it is back for the first time in a non-official remake. Fallout 4: Project Arroyo aims to"recreate and reimagine Fallout 2 in the Creation Engine of Fallout 4" and it has been in development since back in 2019. According to the team, they will be"expanding our locations to feel more natural and immersive. Instead of keeping everything flat, we’ve adjusted them to better fit a true 3D world and Fallout 4’s gameplay", and as such, over on their social media page, they have kept fans up to date with every step of the development process. Not only will Project Arroyo recreate some of the most iconic parts of Fallout 4 with a modern twist, but it will also include some creations from the rest of the modding community. Additionally, to keep up with the project, Fallout 4: Project Arroyo runs its very own Discord page, and with over 13,000 members, it is safe to say that the fanbase is already on board with this ambitious entry. Fallout 2 Deserves A Remake At the time of writing, Fallout 2 has not officially welcomed a remake or remaster, and Bethesda is yet to announce any plans to. Perhaps it will never come to fruition thanks to the series now having a different team at the helm, but there is no denying that a Fallout 2 remake would sell like hot cakes, especially considering that it is often regarded as one of the best video games of all time. However, with Bethesda hard at work on both Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI, it is hard to imagine that we will see an official Fallout 2 remake in our lifetime.
