A Brotherhood of Steel Knight in Fallout Power Armor
The Fallout TV adaptation on Prime Video really did do wonders for the franchise as a whole, showing that video games can make the transition across to other entertainment mediums with a ton of success.
Walton Goggins' turn as the Ghoul has come in for particular praise from audiences, with the character now appearing in Fallout 76 as an NPC, whilst at the same time heading to Colorado in the events of the show itself. That increased integration between existing Fallout properties makes sense, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see that continue in as many forms as possible, given just how popular the program remains. Now, Todd Howard has basically confirmed that absolutely remains the developer's intention moving forward. Fallout 5's Setting Will Be Tied To The TV Series One of the big things about the show is that it's absolutely intended to be canon, and the events therein will be folded into the lore of the games moving forward. As first reported by PC Gamer, that led to Todd Howard blessing fans with a crumb of information about what the eventual release of Fallout 5 will be like, assuming the world doesn't set on fire before we get to play it. "In short, yes, Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account," Howard said. Not only does that confirm a contemporaneous or later time period for Fallout 5, it likely means they will feature at least one of the same locales, unless the actions of the Ghoul, Lucy et. Al ends up having nationwide consequences. Not Every Fallout Fan Loves This Idea Understandably, the community has a fair few reservations at this idea, including under a Reddit post sharing the tidbit from Howard. "I don't know how I feel about this. Like, part of the fun of new fallout games is seeing a new area with new vaults. Heck, Fallout 5 could take place in Alaska, it's an area ripe with potential," one comment read. "Thanks for doing the old thing - making a game according to movie / show. We want new original stuff, we want something so good people will want to make a new show about, not a game walkthrough of the existing show," another added. Whatever does end up happening with Fallout 5, it's going to be years before we get to play it, particularly given Bethesda’s current focus on The Elder Scrolls VI. Fingers crossed we at least get to play that before the decade is out.
