Quote of the day:
“Don’t work on opportunistic projects that will give you short-term success. Have an ambitious long-term goal.”
LeCun has stayed true to his long-term ambition of understanding human and artificial intelligence. He has always considered himself a scientist first. “I always stuck with viewing myself as a scientist as opposed to a technologist, entrepreneur, product developer, manager or executive,” he said. Following his long-term ambition even caused LeCun to turn down an offer from Larry Page to head a research lab at Google. This was 2002 before Google was the large public company that it is today. While Google had several hundred employees and widespread adoption at the time, they weren’t yet financially capable of supporting long-term research with a ten-year horizon.
