Police in Everett are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a 13-year-old student on Thursday morning. The teenager is recovering from multiple stab wounds, but no arrests have been made. Authorities have released a photo of the individual they are calling a person of interest and are urging the public to help identify him. On Friday morning, police officers greeted students at North Middle School , providing a reassuring presence during the morning drop-off.
'My daughter is absolutely terrified,' said Matt, a local father. 'She walks to school and wanted an escort.' Parents have adjusted their routines, opting to personally drop-off students or wait with them at bus stops. Business owners are also taking action. Ruth Abotte, owner of Untamed Society, expressed her concerns about safety. 'I'm super grateful that kid is okay and he's safe, but I just don't want anyone else in our community to be affected or hurt, especially children,' Abotte said. Abotte is installing a surveillance system at her shop and has provided employees with keys and pepper spray as a precaution. 'When we're pulling up to work each day, we are prepared for something potentially happening in front of the building,' Abotte said. 'It's not the greatest feeling in the world.' Police have shared a photo of the suspect, but many residents have expressed frustration over its lack of clarity. 'I definitely zoomed in to see if I could notice any facial features, but the picture was just too blurry,' Abotte said. Authorities are still working to determine a motive for the attack, which occurred as the student was on the way to school. 'We still have no idea why it occurred,' said Everett Police Chief John DeRousse. 'This poor kid got attacked on the way to school, and we are going to try to figure it out.' Matt, the concerned father, shared the sentiment. 'I'd feel safer if they caught the guy,' he said.
