The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has stated its willingness to replace the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Government of National Unity (GNU) if the DA withdraws. The DA has threatened to leave the GNU due to its disapproval of President Cyril Ramaphosa's signing of the BELA and Expropriation Bills into law, despite their opposition.
JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters says it is prepared to replace the DA in the Government of National Unity should the blue party leave.
The Democratic Alliance has recently threatened to leave the GNU, citing its dissatisfaction with President Cyril Ramaphosa's signing of the BELA and Expropriation Bills into law despite its opposition. The EFF was formed 12 years ago as a break-away party from the African National Congress .Despite that, the EFF says it shares many ideological policies with the ANC, unlike the DA.
EFF leader, Julius Malema, says the da is using the united states government to bully the ANC against implementing the Expropriation Act. “They are now seeking external intervention which seeks to undermine the sovereignty of SA. The ANC must know that we are just outside, at the doorstep, once they remove the DA and they want a partner, we are in. There is no government that is going to collapse because Helen Zille says so.”
The DA has since released a statement, suggesting US President Donald Trump may be “misunderstanding” the Expropriation Act.

The MK Party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, argues that the term is inaccurate as it excludes major parties like the MK Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
