The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg heard arguments from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party challenging the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)'s use of the term 'Government of National Unity' (GNU) to describe the current political arrangement. The MK Party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, argues that the term is inaccurate as it excludes major parties like the MK Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Their legal representative, Advocate Dali Mpofu, contends that a true GNU requires participation from parties representing a significant majority of the electorate, which is not the case in the current coalition. The SABC, however, maintains that the term is not subject to legal review and that internal remedies should have been exhausted.
