The city is applying for an ALDOT grant for the improvement project, which would add an additional eastbound lane, a connector road and a roundabout.DOTHAN, Ala. - The city of Dothan is applying for an ALDOT grant for a project that will hopefully solve traffic problems at U.S. Highway 84 and Flowers Chapel Road.
The city commission voted to go through with applying for the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, otherwise known as ATRIP-II. Through the program, the city hopes to start a project for intersection improvements at US-84 and Flowers Chapel Road that will add an additional eastbound lane, a connector road and a roundabout.
Interim Dothan city manager Randy Morris said the goal is to help with traffic flow in one of the most heavily traveled areas in the city. “This next project is continuing that overall master plan we have for 84. What it would do is realign Flowers Chapel Road to bring it in more at a 90-degree angle further west of the Westgate Park intersection and create a safer environment for the traveling public,“ Morris said.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
